My Editing Process
I’ve developed a process to cover all the details, a process documented in my “Book Editing Mind Map For Business Authors: polishing your manuscript into a great business book.”
Here’s a birds-eye view:
- Content Mini-Interview
- Manuscript Review
- Substantive Edit (if needed)
- Line Edit (if needed)
Optionally, I can also work with you to get your book into print through a traditional publisher or self-publishing platform.
- In the Content Mini-Interview, we’ll discuss the details of your book project.
- I’ll need to review your manuscript to determine what level of editing it needs.
- Then I’ll let you know the cost and timeline to edit your manuscript.
If we’re able to agree on a plan that makes sense to both of us, I’ll ask for a refundable deposit. Then I’ll document our plan in a written agreement designed to protect both of us. If for any reason (or no reason at all) you elect not to go forward with the agreement, I’ll refund the entire deposit, no questions asked. When the agreement is authorized by both of us, the deposit will go toward the editing fee, and the agreement will guide our business relationship.
The agreement won’t include “point of no return” milestones. That way, both of us will have maximum flexibility to make sure your manuscript is all it can be.
And unlike most book editors, I don’t require a big upfront payment. If your book needs extensive editing, we’ll work out an affordable monthly payment plan and a flexible schedule.
The end result will be a manuscript that has been professionally edited and proofed – a manuscript for a book you can be proud of.
But only if you take charge and get your manuscript edited and polished. If you don’t, your book may not present you at your best, and you’ll always be filled with regret for what might have been.
